Comparative Effects of Zinc oxide (ZnO) Nano-particles and Micro particles on Some Vegetative Traits of Rapeseed

World usage of nanomaterial has widely increased in last decade. Most studies in field of the

Nanoparticles effects on plants have carried out in the germination stage or the early stages of plant

Growth. Present study with aim of investigating long-term effects of the NPs on plants has comparatively studied growth changes of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) in response to Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles

and micro particles. In present study, some growth traits including plant biomass, root growth, shoot

height, number of leaves, and leaf area were investigated. Overall, the inhibitory effects of ZnO NPs on the growth of plant wasn’t more than those of ZnO BPs. Inhibitory effects of ZnO NPs or BPs on growth of rapeseed may be due in part to the toxic effects of Zn۲+

Ions dissolution, probably induced by root exudates, or physical interaction of ZnO particles with roots, not due to their absorption by roots and Subsequent effects on plant metabolism.
